Who is the ideal candidate for a facelift or necklift?

Facelifts are often associated with older patients, but are suitable for anyone with sagging volumes in the face. This can already become visible around the age of 35 to 40. In Dr. Van Genechten's practice, the average age is between 45 and 55, but both younger and older patients are eligible. The advice is therefore not based on age, but on the presence of sagging volumes and tissue excess in the face.
Do you feel that your face no longer matches how you feel? Do you suffer from sagging cheeks, deep folds or a vague jawline? Then a facelift may be a solution for you. Both men and women are eligible.
What does a facelift solve?
Nasolabial folds
Deep folds between the nose and mouth are softened through the repositioning of underlying structures, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Sagging cheeks
The firmness and contours of the cheeks are restored by lifting and repositioning the deeper tissues.
Marionette lines
The lines running from the corners of the mouth to the chin are reduced by bringing the underlying structures back into position.
Midface descent
By lifting the deeper layers of the face, the descent is corrected and a fresh, youthful look returns.
Excess skin and wrinkles
The skin structure becomes tighter and smoother as excess skin and fine wrinkles diminish when the tissues are lifted.
Neck bands and jawline
A facelift strengthens the jawline and reduces visible neck bands, for a tighter and better-defined profile.
Complete facial rejuvenation
A well-performed facelift offers a comprehensive approach to facial aging and delivers a natural result, without visible tension or a “pulled” effect. It is not about change, but about restoration to the best version of yourself.
Who is an ideal candidate for a necklift?
The neck is often the first zone to show signs of aging: a fuller neck, visible neck bands or a less pronounced jawline. Patients with a naturally fuller neck or a vague jaw contour are often excellent candidates for a Deep Plane Necklift.
During this procedure, both the skin and the deeper layers, such as the platysma muscle complex, are carefully released and repositioned to improve the contours of the neck and jawline. Excess fat under the chin and deeper fat beneath the muscle layer are also addressed.
A necklift is particularly suitable for patients in whom:
- The aging is primarily concentrated in the neck
- The face itself still has sufficient volume and firmness
- Neck bands are visible, even at rest
- The jawline is fading or a double chin is present
- Crepey skin in the neck causes discomfort
A necklift can be performed independently when the anatomy allows it, or combined with a facelift for a fully balanced result.
